Skilled Work Regional visa subclass 491 — NSW nomination opened

Historical note. This article was published on 19 June 2020 and reflects the position at that time. Migration rules, invitation rounds and state nomination requirements change frequently, and any dates or deadlines mentioned here have passed. Please check the current Department of Home Affairs guidance, or speak to our team, before relying on anything below.

NSW opened applications for state nomination for the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491). Applications had to be lodged by 5pm on Friday 26 June 2020, so this round has long since closed.

Who could apply at the time

You could only apply for NSW nomination if you were eligible for the visa subclass and you:

  • held an occupation on the NSW regional skilled occupation list (which included accountants, IT professionals, engineers, trade occupations, child care, nursing and social work, among many others); and
  • were living in a designated regional area of NSW.

The subclass 491 visa still exists, but nomination rounds and occupation lists change. For current requirements, see the Department of Home Affairs, or call our office and we will talk you through it.
